There's nothing worse when making a light hearted remark about people's gadgets to get an overly earnest and telly-offy reply! The best way to get people to take these "toys" seriously is to only use them when they are by far the best tool for the job. I love my gadgets, but I've also learned to love making a lot of notes with pen and paper. If every time you write anything down it's into some gadget rather than a neat pocket notebook, then people will think you're just a techno geek. If they see you using pen and paper too then they're more likely to take your gadgets seriously. You were right not to say anything!
